We work in Kuwait and there is an argument about sex and Ramadan. I contend that a Moslem couple can have sex only after dark i. He maintains that they cannot have sex during the whole of the month. Who's right?

Sawm or Fasting sawm is the abstinence from food, drink, smoking and sex from dawn to sunset. The practice of fasting during the holy month of Ramadan is the fourth pillar of Islam. Apart from the fast of Ramadan, it is customary, according to the "Sunnah" to fast six days of the month "Shawwal" , according to the Muslim calendar. The ruling at the beginning of Islam was that intercourse was permissible during the nights of Ramadaan so long as one had not yet gone to sleep. If a person went to sleep it became haraam for him to have intercourse after that, even if he woke up before dawn came.
